ok, so heres the deal. you've pretty much realised that a great deal of pics used in blogskins around here are taken from Deviantart.com. people are probably infringing on the copyright policies all the time, and links to deviantart.com (not even to the artist's page) are often found hidden in the depths of the blogskin. i myself use deviantart pics and am also a deviantart user. ive tried and note the several artists about their works and theyve very nicely agreed to let me use their images for my skins provided there is credits for the image! its that simple, a note for permission, and an obvious link to the artist's direct profile? is that too much to ask? so close yet so far, and people'd rather continue violating the laws. what im trying to suggest, dear myles, is would you please bring this to the attention of our beloved blogskin contributors. i personally am sick of seeing skins that barely give credit to the image artist.

In cases where people have lodged complaints against skins that use images from deviantart (or another other site) without permission, I've disabled those skins. I am a little (ok a lot) behind on processing complaints right now, but I just got some help yesterday so hopefully we'll catch up.
I too don't like to see skins on this site stealing from the hard work of others. Since I can't police every single skin, I rely on the community to let us know when a skin is stealing work from someone else. I think that's the best we can do.

Yes, i totally agree. They just wipe everything off with the "Oh, it's from deviantart!" They're not even giving the artist e basic respect! Some do not even seek permission before ripping artwork to slap onto their "skins". The few who credit only deviantart.com will give people e wrong idea that deviantart is a image stock place where images can be taken for free.

I saw alot of people who use devart pics with no credits but i do not tell anyone...cos they're friends you see...but i feel uneasy..i am a devart user myself and i know so many people do not like this...last time,i saw a pic used and i knew that dev person well so i informed him.
well...
People like to use pics from this person,yet no credits are given!

i have to agree with gmail
A lot of people have been using the pics from her artwork. I think that is very very very unfair to the artist itself. The LEAST you can do is put a link to the person's site and/or ask the artist for permission.

I've been guilty of using images from deviantart without asking for permission but I DEFINITELY link the artist (hoeg) back, although now I know that I have to ask for permission.
Thing is, I'm not sure how to work deviantart except to view images.. help?

jocie123 kinda has a point. lol.
why post your pictures on the net if you don't want people to steal?
i guess its just the intention to show off your talents.
if a person uses your talent to make it into a masterpiece, why should you be frustrated?
however, a credit given should be okay.

Lots of skins I've seen take pictures from deviantart and credit the website itself and NOT the artist. For example I once saw a sotd skin using a picture from larafairie (did i spell it correctly?) and i dont think the artist allowed it, the skinner didnt ask permission either.
ya oughta give credit to the artist even if you didn't ask permission ._.

Yes, she didn't allow people to use her pictures. I remembered asking her.
I seriously think people should ask permission before using the images.
I mean you wouldn't want people to reproduce your work into something else just by adding brushes right.
If they want to use images without asking permission, go look under stock ^^

I so second that.
I've also asked her before, but she didn't allow me to use any of her works as images in blogskins. And what's the disappointing thing? I see blogskinners who didn't even ask for her permission and still using her works. Begone with the credits- they're just a stupid excuse to get away with it all. And tadaa, skin gets SOTD.
It's fricking stupid.
And I shall not name names here.
I know larafairie is upset with this, but she has no time to voice out even. Sad...
And, it's not only larafairie.
I mean, is it so hard just to drop a tiny comment in the Deviant's commentbox? Wouldn't it be safer if we asked permission?
